How to Scan Sneakers to Identify and Add Them (Scan to Add)
Scan to Add lets you add a sneaker to your SneakersBook collection by pointing your camera at the shoe or its box. Free on-device scans read the style code from the box label, and AI-powered scans recognize the shoe itself. Every detail can be reviewed and edited before saving. Scan to Add is live on Android, with iOS support coming soon.
Step by step
Open Scan to Add
In the SneakersBook app, tap Add Sneaker, then choose Scan.
Scan the box label (free)
Point the camera at the box label. The on-device scanner reads the style code and looks up the exact model and colorway instantly, at no cost.
Or scan the shoe itself (AI)
No box? Aim at the sneaker and the AI recognition identifies the brand, model, and colorway from the shoe's design.
Review the match
SneakersBook shows the identified pair with its details pre-filled. Confirm it is the right colorway, or pick from the suggested alternatives.
Add your specifics and save
Enter size, condition, and purchase price, then save. The pair lands in your collection with its estimated market value attached.
Why scanning beats typing
Manually cataloging a collection means typing brand, model, and colorway for every pair and hoping you picked the right variant among dozens of similar releases. Scanning removes both the typing and the guesswork: the style code on the box maps to exactly one release.
Collectors adding a backlog of 50 or more pairs report the difference is dramatic: a box scan takes a few seconds per pair, so a full shelf can be cataloged in one sitting.
Free scans vs AI scans
Box scans run entirely on your device, are free, and work offline. They read the style code from the label, which is the most reliable identifier a sneaker has.
AI shoe recognition handles the cases a box scan cannot: pairs without boxes, thrift finds, and shoes on your feet. It analyzes the shoe's design to suggest the model and colorway. You always review the match before anything is saved, and manual search remains available as a fallback.
